LEARNING

Christian Formation Classes for All Ages                               Sundays, 9:30-10:15am

  • Elementary Sunday School meets 9:30am in classrooms downstairs
  • Middle Sunday School meets 9:30am in the Youth Room (upstairs)
  • High Sunday School meets 9:30am in the Library (upstairs)

ADULT FORMATION CLASS:  A Roadmap to the Old Testament. Roughly 70% of the Bible is the Old Testament.  Want to have the tools to bring greater understanding to your reading of the Old Testament? This class is aimed each week to discuss specific portions of the Old Testament and how they fit into the bigger Story of what God has done!  What a great way to start off the year!  Sundays, 9:30am, in McCray Hall – Taught by Jon Corbett

NEW BIBLE STUDY: The Gospel of John – Starting in January – led by Marsha Price

  • Have you ever looked closely at the way Jesus interacted with people?  Have you ever wondered why He said the strange things He said or asked such abrupt questions?  Have you yearned to have an encounter with Him yourself? The Gospel of John offers us rare glimpses into how Jesus engaged people in daily life.
  • If you’d like to have Jesus walk off the Biblical page and be "up close and personal" with you, join our group.  Our goal is to deepen our relationship with Jesus.  Since that takes time, this will be an open-ended class.  We will be meeting weekly at the church on a day and time that works best for the group.  We will get to the meaning of the text by asking the important question of life: Why? What? How?  We’ll try to put ourselves into the story, to see how Jesus is dealing with people there, and how he deals with each of us. There will be lots of discussion and learning from each other.  I’d like to start in January.
  • If you are interested in an adventure like no other, please email Marsha Price at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

DOING

WHAT IS A LAY EUCHARISTIC MINISTER?

Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) are members of the laity (i.e., non-ordained persons) who assist the priest during the Eucharist by serving the consecrated wine to the people.  During our two regular Sunday worship services, Father Tom is assisted during the Eucharist by a sub-deacon (SD) who assists at the altar and helps to serve the consecrated bread, and by two LEMs who serve the consecrated wine.  Contact:  Fr. Tom or Linda Stoutenburgh

To serve as a Lay Eucharistic Minister at St. Peter’s, you need to:

  • be at least 16 years old and
  • be a baptized and confirmed member of the parish
  • apply for a license from the Bishop (applications available in church office)
  • receive LEM instruction from the Rector or the Rector’s designee

BLOOD DRIVE:  Sunday, January 21, 7am-12:30pm, at the Purcellville Firehouse, 500 N. Maple Ave., in the Training Room.  To schedule an appointment, call 1-866-256-6372.

YOUTH MOVIE NIGHT this Friday, January 26, 7pm, in the Youth Room.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY quarterly meditation booklet contains daily bible readings and thoughtful meditations written by men and women from all across The Episcopal Church—both clergy and lay. Over half a million people read Forward Day by Day every day, praying and studying the word of God together. Forward Day by Day is available in the entryway in both regular and large type formats.

PROSPECTIVE ST. PETER'S ACOLYTES:  "I will go unto the altar of God, even the God of my joy and gladness."   If you have a desire to "go unto the altar of God" and serve Him there as an acolyte please contact Dan LaPre. Children should be Middle or High school-ers. We also have an adult acolyte team, so those 18 and older are encouraged to consider joining us, too.
