Dear Friends:

            We have much to be thankful for here at St. Peter's, and we are working hard to develop and improve our programs. We are:

  • v  Building a stand-out music program that includes the goal of creating a large choir to make a joyful noise unto the Lord (Psalm 98:4) and all of us;
  • v  Working to strengthen our Youth Ministry to inspire the next generation of Christians because as we teach youth, they will declare His wondrous deeds (Psalm 71:17);
  • v  Working to deliver high quality Christian education programs with the goal of training us up in the way we should go (Proverbs 22:6); and
  • v  Identifying needs so that we may serve our Lord, our congregation and our community.

            In the years of 2015 and 2016 St. Peter’s had financial challenges that resulted in approximately $100K of losses; however since that time we have made meaningful progress in reducing costs and placing more emphasis on communicating our financial needs.  Today we are making progress in managing a budget that restores approximately $25K of the operating cash that was lost, while at the same time continuing to serve our mission with the resources that we have available. To address our financial challenges in 2017, as a Vestry, we were forced to reduce and defer staff salaries, put off a number of needed maintenance projects (i.e.: replacing the front parking lot) and put in place a number of control measures.  These were tough decisions, and we don’t ever want to be in this situation again.

            We need your help. We are approximately $20K short of the progress needed to achieve our income budget of $482K. We need to work together, and the Vestry is asking everyone to meet their pledge and increase their giving by 10%.  Working together we can fix the $20K projected shortfall, and it will allow the Vestry to restore the reductions in salaries that our staff took for the good of our church.

            If you are interested in further understanding our finances or any issue that the Vestry is working on, please feel free to approach me or any of my fellow Vestry members. We will work to make sure your concerns are addressed.

Thank You.

Joe Matthews, Sr. Warden

SEMINAR ON SEXUALITY:  "Love is a battlefield." So sang Pat Bennetar in her 1983 hit that explored the seedy underside of sex in the big city.  Since the late 60s the world had changed dramatically, but Bennetar couldn't imagine how much further it would descend since then.  "Love," and it's bewildering array of amorous expressions, is now a principal battlefield in our society. What lies behind this “culture war”? It's a clash of visions that are worlds-apart.  We'll compare them on Wednesday November 15 at St. Peter's from 6:30pm until 9:00pm, placing the teaching of Alfred Kinsey, Herbert Marcuse and Hugh Hefner next to the teaching of Moses, Jesus and Paul. You'll walk away understanding the ideological origins of the pansexuality that dominates our society, and with a persuasive case for the ancient way of sex-enjoyed-in-marriage.
