Tom grew up in Fairfax, Virginia, and lives in Purcellville, where he has served as Rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church since 2002.  A priest since  1998, Tom earned the M.Div. from Westminster Seminary and the M.A. in Christian Education from Virginia Seminary.  He was awarded the D.Min. in preaching from Gordon-Conwell Seminary, where he studied under legendary preacher, Haddon Robinson.

Tom is active in the community as Chaplain for the Purcellville Volunteer Rescue Squad and on the Board of INOVA Loudoun Hospital.  He also serves as Secretary on the Board of Coaching Mission International, a non-profit dedicated to providing coaching services for front-line missionaries.  From his doctoral work, Tom also serves as The Sermon Coach to clergy colleagues, helping them develop their skills and passion for preparing and delivering sermons.

Before giving his life to the Church, Tom served as a machine gunner in the Army and a Capitol Hill staffer in the House and Senate. Tom loves woodworking, learning, playing strategy games, shooting, preaching, and delights in seeing people's lives change for the better.

His personal mission is:  Empower the church to change the world.  He seeks to do that by lifting up Jesus Christ among the people of St. Pete’s, above all counterfeit gods, so that they can receive what he has promised and be equipped to give it to others “to the ends of the earth.”

He is dad to George, Henry, Posey, Mary Virginia, and Sarah Jane.

I was born and raised in East Hartford Ct. as the middle child of 5 kids of a working-class family. Graduated East Catholic High School ‘76, Saint Michaels College, BA ‘80, Embry Riddle University, MAS ‘96.

While at St Michaels, joined ROTC and, after graduation, entered the Air Force ‘81’ and entered pilot training graduating in April ‘82. Flew as a pilot in the Air Force for 20 years. Retiring in ‘01’ attaining the rank of Lt Col. Hired in ‘01 by American Airlines and flew numerous airplanes until retiring in Mar ‘20.

I’ve been to churches around the world (mostly Catholic). Started coming to St. Peter's with my wife Cyndy (just celebrated 37 yrs) and liked what I heard from Fr. Tom and what I saw from the Parishioners and the St Peter's community.

I helped Fr Tom build doors for the church, and he asked if I could fill in as Sextant for a while as they needed someone. I have always tried in various ways to help folks and give back. Now with quite a bit of free time on my hands, it seemed a logical next step to take on the role of Sextant…..for a while.

I was born to Alfred and Mary LaPre in July 1961 as the third of four children.    I have two older brothers and a younger sister.

My childhood was spent in the small town of Killingly, Connecticut (CT).    Killingly is located in the northeastern section of CT and is about the only rural area between Boston and New York City.    We were Boston-oriented rather than New York City or New England oriented.  It molded our tendencies in television, radio, literature, architectural tastes, home designs, colleges, food, and sports.  Just about everything.
