PRAYER NEEDS: Individuals and families may choose to have their names placed on the public and/or private prayer lists. The names on the public prayer list are included during the Prayers of the People during worship on Sunday and in the bulletin.  St. Peter’s Prayer Quilt members spquilt@stpetes.net pray for the people on the private list.  Names are listed for four weeks. If you would like someone to remain on our list, please send us an update every 4 weeks.

NEW WAYS TO PRAY!  We have been doing a lot of praying in new ways this year. Consider joining us or making use of any, or all, of the opportunities below –

  • Sweet Hour of Prayer every Wednesday at 10:30 with seven of us regularly gathering.
  • Using our new Prayer Cards on the first Sunday during prayers of the people.
  • Turning the altar in the Chapel into our Prayer Altar, covered with new prayer requests.
  • The Vestry is incorporating praying together into our Strategic Plan and into Vestry meetings.
  • And the latest: Gathering an intercessor team to pray for people in-person after church on Sundays. Once the crowd has left the Nave, they’d be happy to meet with you discreetly one-on-one to pray with you.

LEARNING

NEW COURSE: EXPLORING YOUR FAITH

Our new Bishop, Mark Stevenson, is coming September 28 for his first visitation with us.  I am excited.  I have found much to be impressed with in him, and I think you will too.

His coming is an opportunity for many of us to “take the next step” in your journey with Jesus.

  • If you were baptized as a small child and are now ready (at 15-16 years old) to speak for yourself and publicly own your faith in Jesus.
  • If you came to St. Peter’s from another Christian tradition and would like to take the plunge with us in the Anglican Communion,
  • If you’ve been away from Christian faith and community for some time but have returned and are now renewing your connection.

The Bishop will formally confirm, receive and renew you!

If you want to take that step, we need to start preparing. Join us Sunday, June 22, 11:15 am, in the Library.

  • Part I – Creed. What do Christians believe? And why?  A 4-part study (June 29 with lunch, July 6, 13, 20) of the Church’s foundational statement of faith, the Nicene Creed, explores what we believe.
  • Part II – Covenant. What do Christians DO?  And why?  A 4-part study (Jul 27 with lunch, Aug 3, 10, 17) of the Baptismal Covenant, the liturgical act of commitment, which defines our path of discipleship.
  • Part III – Anglican Way. You ARE who you “hang” with. The people of St. Peter’s are part of a global communion of churches 80 million strong, following Jesus in Britain and beyond since the 2nd century.  We’ll discuss what that means for us (Aug 24 with lunch, Sept 7, 14,21).

NURSERY:  If needed, Nursery care is available during our 9:30 am service. The Nursery is located on the lower level.  We are always looking for a few more volunteers to help staff the nursery from 9:30 – 10:45 am.  If you have any questions, you can contact Kathleen Voss at (703) 409-2314 or katvoss1970@gmail.com

VBS 2025 STARTS TOMORROW, MONDAY JUNE 16, 2025, FROM 9 AMNOON. The theme is Wonder Junction, where kids travel to the Old West and learn about the greatest wonder of all… Jesus Christ.  WE NEED VOLUNTEERS in the following spaces for VBS to happen. Please reach out to Kathleen Voss if you have the capacity or questions. katvoss1970@gmail.com or 703-409-2314

  • Decorations Team: Meet on Sunday afternoon to decorate for VBS. Typically it takes about 1 – 2 hours.
  • Kitchen Helpers: 2 or 3 volunteers to help distribute morning breakfast to volunteers and snacks to campers. All food is prepared. Kitchen helpers also clean up the kitchen after use and add an extra set of eyes on the children in McCray Hall. Commitment 8:30 a.m. – Noon M- F
  • Bible Teachers: 2 or 3 to lead the bible lesson (prepared for you) for our elementary kids. This session is usually about 35 minutes long M – F.  Commitment 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., M- F
  • Craft Leader: A volunteer (could be a responsible teen) to lead the craft area. The VBS packet provides ideas for crafts, or we can create our own. Craft leaders pull the materials together, organize the themed crafts in the morning, and assist the children with the crafts. Commitment 10:00 a.m.-noon, M-F
  • Science Leader: Each VBS has a science component that relates to nature. This volunteer could be a responsible teen. The science experiments are already detailed in the VBS packet we need an individual to lead. Commitment 10:00 a.m. – noon, M-F
  • Game Leader: A volunteer to lead the games outside, could be a responsible teen. Commitment 10:00 a.m. – noon, M-F
  • Music Leader: A volunteer who can carry a tune!  We would love to incorporate the music provided by the VBS into our morning session.  Commitment 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., M- F
  • FOOD DONATIONS:  A sign-up genius will be available later this month.

FIGHT FOR SOULS: SHARING THE WORD

“Then Peter began to say to Him, ‘See, we have left all and followed You.’  So Jesus answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time – houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions – and in the age to come, eternal life.  But many who are first will be last, and the last first.’”  Mark 10:28 – 31

“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us:  we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.  For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of Godin Him.”  2 Cor. 5:20 – 21

“Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord you God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

“The attitude of fortitude turns adversity into advantage.  If what you’re doing doesn’t have resistance, then what you’re doing isn’t worth doing.  Adversity leads to achievement.”           -John Hagee

The next meeting will be held at 5:00 p.m. on July 13, 2025, at the Novak House.
